There are many jobs in bilingual areas that simply do not make sense. Why should we as Americans adapt to the influx of illegal immigrants? Why should we encourage them in neglecting to learn our national language? If they can simply speak their native tongue wherever they go, they have less incentive to learn our national language. If, they have a problem, want to buy something, or whatever, they should be speaking English to get those things accomplished. If the company has a Spanish/English speaker who simply translates for them and helps them out, then they figure they can just live through the rest of their life speaking their own tongue and waiting for someone to translate. It is a little ridiculous.
Because I am fluent in Spanish, I have always been qualified to apply for Spanish bilingual jobs. I am not sure if I would approve of the position. Bilingual sales jobs only encourage bilingual speaking. We want our country to have a unified national language. We want our country to be unified and that can only happen if there is no language barrier within the boundaries of our own country. Once there is a language barrier, our unity as a country is threatened! History has taught us that great nations and civilizations fell due to their lack of unity. Because they were divided from within, their enemies could easily overtake them. Whenever that great nation was united, nobody stood a chance. If we allow the seed of disunity to be planted by accepting immigrants who do not speak the national language, we are only dooming our nation to failure and opening our doors to our enemies. This is why it makes no sense to tolerate and approve of bilingual jobs. Corporations should not be complying with this problem and simply adapting to it. They are doing it to make a buck from all those new immigrants. They would never miss the chance to take advantage of a lucrative opportunity. However, their actions speak louder than words and tell immigrants that it is okay for them to reside in our country without ever learning our national language.
There is a valid reason for some companies to have bilingual job openings. If they are an international company, with international clients, then they will want to speak to people in their native tongue. If they are dealing with people in Peru, they will want to speak the language of Peruvians to their Peruvian customers. The same goes for China, Japan and any other country these companies will be dealing with. This is a valid reason for hiring and holding job openings for bilingual people. They are dealing with people in different countries and should respect them by speaking in their national languages.
However, for most of us, this is not the case. Most bilingual sales jobs have to do with local people in our own communities. By working a bilingual job, we are speaking with other ''Americans'' face to face in a language that is not the national language. This is simply wrong. It is one thing to help an immigrant learn our language and help him out while he is learning; it is another thing to condone his failure to learn our language and failure to try. Many immigrants are not even trying to learn English. They have given up or never tried in the first place and have come here to live. They simply speak only to those who speak their native tongue. Well if they want to go anywhere in the world, they should learn the national language of the country they are living in. There are still enough repercussions and incentives for them to learn the national language.
Many immigrants have a very hard time learning English, and we should be tolerant. If they are trying to learn the language, that is one thing. But many of them do not even try, and that is what upsets me. If we stick to our national language and make sure everything is primarily in English, we will give them more incentive to learn our language. If they do not like it, they do not have to live here. They moved to our country hence pay the price to stay. That is what the rest of us do when we move to another country. We learn their language. We do not expect everyone in that country to accommodate us, and our ignorance. If we do, we should be ashamed of our arrogance and ignorance. It is embarrassing to be living in another country when you cannot communicate with the citizens of that country. It is simply embarrassing. However, it is not nearly as embarrassing in America because we have started adapting to them and accommodating their ignorance. This has to end, and we need to strengthen our resolve to make English the sole national language!
